The Known Disciple Project

About
The Known Disciple Project

Hidden is easy. Known is brave. This is where Christian men stop hiding, own their identity in Christ, and become who He's calling them to be, surrounded by brothers who won't let them drift.

Hebrews 3:13 — "Encourage one another daily... so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness."

The Origin

Why The Known Disciple Project Exists

Mark playing a guitar during a devotional

Years into building coaching businesses, thousands of hours into the work, I started sensing something clear from God. The gifts and skills He'd given me weren't meant to be pointed at business growth alone. They were meant to be pointed at eternal things.

That calling sat with me for years before it had a name. The name, when it came, came from my own struggle. I spent a long time fighting to be known while also fighting to stay hidden, and I realized how rare it actually is to be truly known. Leaning into my faith, I found that I already was known, by the God who made me and the Savior who saved me.

Psalm 139:1 — "You have searched me, Lord, and you know me."

That realization changed the order of things for me. I'm not a coach and business builder who happens to be a Christian. I'm a disciple of Christ who happens to be a coach and a business builder.

Disciples make disciples. That's what The Known Disciple Project is: a known disciple, bringing as many men with him as possible.

It wasn't one dramatic moment. It was a slow burn: years of prayer, and slowly finding the courage to lead from a place of already being known instead of a place of proving.

As I leaned into my identity in Christ, even in business, the right men started showing up around me, and I started to see what was possible on the other side of hiding.

The more I paid attention, the more I saw the same thing everywhere: driven, respected men, successful in their businesses and their churches, still hiding.

Still performing. Still afraid that being fully known would cost them everything they'd worked for. I recognized it, because I'd lived it myself.

That recognition is where The Known Disciple Project was born, not as a business plan, but as a conviction. God wasn't finished teaching me what it meant to be known.

He was calling me to build a place where other men could get there too: a tribe of growth-minded Christian men who stop performing, get honest, and build real strength together instead of carrying it alone.

The Founder

Meet Mark, founder of TKDP

Mark and his wife Misty smiling together in the mountains

I've been with my wife, Misty, since we were 14. We married at 20 and have been happily together with our eyes on God for more than two decades.

We have a teenage son, a teenage adopted daughter, and a teenage nephew living with us. All walking out their faith in their own ways.

When I'm not working, I'm lifting weights, playing guitar, studying, or taking a solo trips to reconnect with God and hit reset.

I became a Christian at 16, after chasing Misty to church. I did all the things a young Christian is supposed to do: Bible reading, a biblical studies degree, mission trips, ministry work. But there were no real roots underneath it.

At 25 I hit a season of real doubt, two years of stepping back from my faith and asking hard questions. I finally decided I had to be all in or all out, so I spent a day walking the University of Houston campus, working through every doubt I had.

I came out the other side more convinced than ever that God is real, and that conviction has never left. Wherever you are in your faith journey, you're allowed to ask the hard questions. Just don't walk it out alone.

My path here wasn't a straight line. I spent 13 years in emergency service, starting as a paramedic and by 25 running a large county EMS agency and leading task force response to major disasters, hurricanes, and large-scale emergencies. Real life-or-death stakes.

That's where I fell in love with building people under pressure. When I left government work, I landed, almost by accident, in health coaching, and my team and I brought on 600 clients in our first two years. From there I moved into high-performance coaching, business coaching, and eventually faith coaching, which led here.

Mark Hummel, CEO, founder, coach

I'm trained through IPEC as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC), with degrees in biblical studies, public administration, and a master's in business. I've logged more than 10,000 hours coaching and facilitating groups, speak on stages, guest on podcasts, lead retreats and conferences, build courses, teach and led men's groups at my church.

All to bring as many people with me toward Christ as possible. Because none of the accolades matter without our eyes on Him.

The Vision

Strong Men. Strong Families. Strong communities.

The vision of The Known Disciple Project is to build strong men, in the church, in their families, and in their businesses. We're called to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to follow Jesus until our lives start looking more like His. Part of that is discovering the gifts we've been given and using them to serve others, wherever God has placed us.

Mark 12:30 — "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."

Most men build their lives around what they can do: achievement, performance, output. The Known Disciple Project teaches a different order. Start with identity: who God says you are. Then life: the life you build because of it. Then how: the man you're becoming in Christ. Then who it's for: the service that flows out of all of it. We teach men to live that out, then surround them with a tribe of brothers who keep pulling them, and the men around them, deeper.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Known Disciple Project

Why isn't this free?

Everything you actually need is free: wisdom through Scripture, salvation through Christ, guidance by the Holy Spirit. The Known Disciple Project is a paid program because we're building a movement of men who take growth seriously. Free groups rarely produce real growth because people aren't committed for the long term. Think of the membership as your guarantee: the men around you are hard-charging, growth-minded Christian men who refuse to settle or drift.

How much do I need to know about Scripture to join?

There's no wrong answer here. This is for growth-minded Christian men at every stage of their faith. Even if you have never opened a bible, you are welcome and will get a ton of growth that you can actually impliment in your life and faith. You do not need to be an expert. And if you happen to be an expert... there is plenty for you too, as we grow together.

Does this replace church?

Absolutely not. Part of our mission is to strengthen men to return to their church, family, work, and community so more disciples are made and the gospel spreads. Think of this as your training ground, your board of advisors, your accountability tribe, where you get built up so you can step into everything else as a strong Christian man.
